GTA 6 'Extended Look': Rockstar Finally Shows 26 Minutes of Gameplay

After 18 months of silence, Rockstar debuted a 26-minute Grand Theft Auto 6 preview on Netflix — six hours before YouTube — showing Jason and Lucia, a Florida-sized world, and graphics fans are calling the best they've ever seen. The November 19 date still stands.

OFFICIALAfter more than 18 months without an official glimpse, Rockstar has shown fans a roughly 26-minute preview of Grand Theft Auto 6. The 'extended look' debuted on Netflix — six hours before it went live on YouTube — and was the first time players have seen detailed footage of the game actually in action. Below is the official video, and what the preview did and didn't tell us.

WHAT ACTUALLY DROPPED

The montage ran with no commentary or explanatory captions, letting the footage speak for itself: improved graphics, densely detailed environments, and a run of car chases and shoot-outs from the sequel. It landed as a marketed streaming event rather than a normal trailer.

It also arrived after a rough week for Rockstar. The preview followed a run of unauthorised gameplay leaks that the studio said had been 'heartbreaking' to see spread online — the same leak wave we've been tracking on the GTA 6 hub. This was Rockstar's chance to finally show the version of the game it wanted the world to see.

JASON AND LUCIA TAKE CENTRE STAGE

A big chunk of the look was devoted to the relationship between the two protagonists, Jason Duval and Lucia Camino — the couple at the heart of GTA 6's 'Bonnie and Clyde' story. It's the first time a mainline GTA has centred a romantic pair like this.

In a preview published by IGN, the developers said the couple's story, and how it unfolds, can be shaped by the player's actions — and that you can even 'opt out' of developing their bond if you'd rather. The Netflix footage didn't show that system in depth, but it did confirm you can switch control between the two at different points; in one sequence, Jason lowers Lucia from a window as they flee a drug bust in an apartment block. It's an evolution of the character-switching Rockstar built into GTA 5's three-lead structure.

'THE BEST-LOOKING GAME'

Praise for the visuals was close to universal. Characters showed photorealistic faces and lifelike movement, and fans singled out the detailed interiors — apartments, rooftop bars and grimy underground clubs. The preview toured Leonida, the fictional Florida-inspired state GTA 6 is set in, which includes the Miami-inspired Vice City that first appeared in the 2002 game.

Small touches drew outsized attention: the range of realistic body shapes and sizes among background characters, something games rarely bother with, was widely noted. Journalist Ryan McCaffrey said GTA 6 'might be the best-looking game I've ever seen.' The fidelity is widely attributed to Rockstar's long development time and a budget thought to be among the largest in gaming history.

One eye-catching, still-unconfirmed claim: YouTuber TGG, who says he was invited to Rockstar North in Edinburgh to see the game, reported being told the map is twice the size of GTA 5's. Rockstar hasn't confirmed that officially, so treat it as a strong tip rather than a fact.

STILL, UNMISTAKABLY, GRAND THEFT AUTO

For all the leaps in scale and visuals, the preview made clear this is still a GTA game at its core. Viewers saw the armed heists, car chases and criminal-underworld set-pieces that define the series, alongside its trademark satirical swipes at US culture and darkly comic character beats.

There were signs Rockstar has carried forward ideas from 2018's Red Dead Redemption 2, including an 'honour'-style reputation system that shapes how other characters treat you. For a franchise estimated to have sold around half a billion copies since 1997, it's a careful balance of new ambition and familiar DNA.

NO WORD ON GTA ONLINE

One thing the preview pointedly didn't cover was multiplayer. Rockstar has already said GTA 6 will be a 'single-player experience' at launch, so a successor to its wildly lucrative online mode is assumed to come later. The Netflix look stuck to story and gameplay, as expected.

That omission still matters for the long game. GTA Online, which followed GTA 5's 2013 launch, remains one of the most-played games in the world and has generated billions for Rockstar; GTA 5 itself has sold more than 200 million copies. The two existing GTA 6 trailers have racked up nearly 500 million combined YouTube views, and the November launch is widely expected to be the biggest in gaming history — but its long-term success will hinge on whatever online mode eventually arrives.

THE DATE STANDS

Nothing here moved the release: GTA 6 is still set for November 19, 2026 on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. Separately, Rockstar's parent is due at a Scottish employment tribunal next month over claims it unlawfully dismissed a group of employees involved in union organising — allegations it strongly denies, saying the dismissals were for gross misconduct.

RATING

This is official Rockstar footage, so we rate the preview's contents CONFIRMED — the characters, setting, visual leap and single-player-at-launch stance are all straight from the source. The map-size claim and the finer details of the relationship system stay POSSIBLE until Rockstar spells them out. We'll keep updating the GTA 6 hub as the November 19 launch nears.
